Here is a follow-up to my first posting about the Gaelic/Irish
words<br>
for bat.<br>
<br>
Strange that nobody suggests what iatlu, dialtag etc. actually
meant<br>
originally. Gaelic ialtag-leathair also exists, which makes one
wonder<br>
a leather what? Cf. Irish sciathán-leathair = leather wing. Just<br>
about all designations for the bat in European languages fit this<br>
Irish model, e.g. Russian flying mouse, Serbian blind mouse,
Breton<br>
blind mouse. I see no reason why iatlu would not also fit this
pattern.<br>
Somebody must have written about this!!!<br>
