Journal Description:<br>
Béaloideas / The Journal of the Folklore of Ireland Society is an
annual peer-reviewed journal with an Editorial Board and an
International Advisory Board. It publishes a variety of scholarly,
analytical articles dealing with folkloristics and with aspects of the
folklore of Ireland and neighbouring countries, particularly Scotland
and the Isle of Man. Articles discuss and examine a wide range of
topics in an international perspective. Some articles draw extensively
on the National Folklore Collection, University College Dublin.
Articles are published for the most part in Irish (with English
summary) and in English. The journal also includes an extensive review
section of publications in the field of folklore and folkloristics.<br>
On July 9, JSTOR announced the Ireland Collection, a unique set of
materials from and about Ireland. This collection is being created in
collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast and with funding from the
JISC Digitisation Programme. It will also introduce a substantial
number of monographs and manuscripts into the JSTOR archive, along with
Gaelic language material. “This is the first of what we hope will be
many joint ‘regional’ collection building efforts with libraries and
societies” says JSTOR Executive Director Michael Spinella.<br>
Like other content included in JSTOR, users can browse, search, view,
and print full-text PDF versions of the materials in this collection.
The first journals will be released in August and, when completed in
2009, the Ireland Collection will include the full back runs of more
than 75 journals, 205 monographs, and 2,500 manuscript pages. The
collection will be an excellent complement to JSTOR's existing
collections, adding scholarship and other materials across the
humanities, social sciences, and sciences that span from the 1780s to
the present.<br>
