Why is +y now required to avoid splitting by speaker?

Hi

On older versions of CLAN, the following freq command, searching for all words
containing -ing- in selected CHAT files (@):
freq +s*ing* +u @
would give a single list across all files. However, this is no longer the case
- the results are now split by speaker.

The command required is now:
freq +s*ing* +y +u @

When did this become the case, and is it possible to have a bit more
background on the reasons for the different behaviour? The manual (pp142-3)
says that +y is mainly for non-CHAT files, but we are, as noted above, using
CHAT files.
