Importing .cha files to Nvivo

Thanks, Leonid. Unfortunately NVivo doesn't appear to offer that possibility. We spent a while fiddling and have found a way, but nothing that straightforward. I was curious if there was an option similar to RTFIN, but that in fact did the opposite, so converting CHAT to Word.

All the best
Kevin

Kevin,

.cha are plain text files encoded in Unicode UTF-8 format. If Nvivo like MS Word allows to select text encoding during opening file process, then you can just select Unicode UTF-8 and it should open .cha files correctly.

Leonid.

Dear all

We’re trying to load bulleted .cha files in Nvivo 10, but it’s quite a tricky job. The program does not accept. Cha files. We’ve tried changing the .cha files to .txt. files (using Notepad ++), but then accents (for French/Spanish e.g.) are lost or changed to numbers etc. The only way we’ve found so far is by copying .cha contents into Word individually, then saving a transcript as .doc. Does anybody know of a quicker way load. Cha files into Nvivo? Any advice would be most gratefully received.

Best wishes
Kevin
