Caroline,

CLAN has a DELIM command that will add period (.) utterance delimiter to every speaker utterance that does not already have any other utterances delimiter.

In ELAN you can use any text editor to open ".eaf" file and replace string "</ANNOTATION_VALUE>" with string ".</ANNOTATION_VALUE>". This will add period (.) to every utterance in ELAN's data file regardless whether it already has an utterance delimiter or not.

Leonid.

Hi all,

If you want to convert ELAN files to CLAN and you have forgotten to tell your students to use utterance delimiters (e.g. ! . ?) in their ELAN transcription tier (!) is there an easy, quick way to add them back in – either to the ELAN or CHAT transcription files?

Thanks

Caro
