Calculating narrative length in words

Ingrid,

	GEMFREQ is a shortcut for GEM followed by FREQ commands combination. If you want to get more detailed control over the data and its output, then you will need to use GEM command first to extract the right gems from your data and then run FREQ command on that output.

	Depending on what kind of data you have you can specify more or less options for GEM command. The following GEM commands assume that your data has @ID: header tiers and %mor: tiers and that you want to run FREQ on %mor: tiers instead of main speaker tiers. Here are two commands that assume that your data gems are marked with @G: header:

gem +sWindow +n +t at ID +t%mor +f +d
gem +sStroke +n +t at ID +t%mor +f +d

After running each command you will see in the CLAN Output window a line at the bottom that starts with "Output file <". That shows you the name of the output file that is associated with the last GEM command. At this time you can run FREQ command on that output filename.
