Hi Leonid,
Thanks for your reply. When I use the format that is used on the %mor line when entering the items in the exclude file (which I didn't do earlier), the items are indeed excluded.
Linda

On Thu, Dec 8, 2011 at 9:59 PM, Leonid Spektor <spektor@andrew.cmu.edu> wrote:
In my test the "exclude.cut" file has only one line "n:prop|Nicky". The "sample.cha" is distributed with CLAN and is located in "CLAN/lib/samples" folder, if you want to try it yourself. One thing to remember is that you are analyzing items on %mor tier. This means that entries in the exclude file must comply with format of items on %mor tier. Also, in your example you have "?t*" option, I assume you meant "-t*".

I would like to use the vocd program to get type-token ratios for a set
of transcriptions. I need to know the TTRs for the lemmas (rather than
for the word forms), and therefore I use the following command
(mentioned on p. 127 in the CLAN manual):
vocd +t%mor ?t* +s"*|*-%%" *mor.cha
(I don't need the +s"*|*&%%" function, so have left it out)

In addition, I would like to exclude from the TTR count a number of
hesitations that I have written in an exclude file. My problem is that
when I add the exclude command (-s"@exclude.cut") to the above command
like this:
vocd +t%mor ?t* +s"*|*-%%" -s"@exclude.cut" *.mor.cha

this command is not executed. In other words, the hesitations in the
exclude list are not excluded. Is this because the exclude command only
applies to the main line? If so, how do I combine a command that uses
vocd on the main line with one that uses vocd on the MOR line? I have
tried to experiment with the piping command, but without any success.
Can anyone help? Any help is much appreciated.

Linda
