Canim stick comes to mind, but only because of the use of birchbark in
making canoes - not the Northwest variety of canoe, however.  Canim stick
otherwise meant cedar, IIRC. =20

I think the most appropriate might be "tkope stick" - white tree - unless
"tkope chikamin stick" wouldn't be too unwieldy.....chikamin stick sounds
too much like a metal rod, I think.
