_Nostalgia_ magazine of Spokane, WA, April 2000, page 21, reprinting an
article from the Spokane _Spokesman-Review_ of February 12, 1912:

	"Phases of pioneer life around Cheney was the topic of the
Tillicum Club yesterday and 50 women and men of Cheney were attracted to
Mrs. N.D. Showalter's residence to hear the program...Mrs. J.M. Perry
prepared a paper which was read by her daughter, Mrs. Van Patten, on the
last Indian scare. Mrs. Perry came to this country in 1877."

Many pioneers' (i.e. settlers') clubs in the Northwest seem to have been
called Tillicum Clubs. As has been mentioned on this list previously
about Seattle and other pioneer families, knowledge of Chinook Jargon was
a strongly esteemed badge of "old-timer" identity. Even in this part of
Eastern Washington, where the currency of CJ may have been limited at
best, a few tokens of that identity were cherished for many years after
the pioneer period.  Witness also the Skookum apple company of ?Wenatchee;
I recall as a kid having seen their gigantic logo on facilities around
that town. There's also the Potlatch logging company, quite a powerful
presence in the Inland Northwest.

Dave
