Henry Zenk has kindly corrected me on a message I posted to the List on
April 2, and has provided a good transcription of the CJ word, so I'll
try again:

EULACHON < Chinook Jargon ulXan (X = back-x) (H. Zenk) or directly from
its etymon Chinookan uLXan (u with acute accent, L = barred ell, X =
back-x) (Hdbk. N. Amer. Indians VII.50).
