Dave,

I forgot to include a deadline in my last e-mail.  If you could send out
this one, instead of the first one, we'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Pam Jordan

TO:         Linguists, cultural program staff
FROM:       River Network

River Network, the nation’s leader in grassroots river and watershed
protection, has received a grant from the EPA to write a Tribal Guidebook on
Watershed Assessment.

Our River Watch program staff has been working for years with the Taos and
Picuris Pueblos, as well as other tribes, on water quality and assessment
issues. We also have been working closely with the Yukon Inter Tribal
Watershed Council.

River Network’s Science and Tribal Services Manager, Angie Reed, is the
author of the Tribal Guidebook.  Before joining River Network, Reed worked
as the Water Resources Specialist for the Houlton Band of the Maliseet
Indians.  She has a broad educational background, and extensive technical
experience in water quality monitoring and aquatic ecology.

To make this guidebook as relevant as possible, Reed would like to include
the word for “water” in as many tribal languages as possible throughout the
book.  She is also collecting tribal stories about rivers and water to help
shed light on the cultural and spiritual connection tribes have to this most
valuable of resources.

We would appreciate your input for this project. If you have words or
stories you would like to share with us, please e-mail them to
areed at rivernetwork.org. Our deadline is November 15, 2000. Please feel free
to forward this e-mail to other linguists or cultural program staff who may
be able to assist us.
