How to say 'Canim Lake' in English

The Kiwa (I think officially designated a Creek) is near the head of the
Fraser River, on Hwy 16. Historically the area is allied with New
Caledonia, Fort George, and the Cariboo Goldfields, etc. That point is
just north of the headwaters of the Thompson River, so there were always
a lot of Shuswaps around. Before the 70's, there was also a connection
with the Columbia River (now blocked by a huge reservoir). If the name
wasn't originally a CJ placename, it has become interpreted as one.

Here's a bit I picked up from the web which was interesting in terms of
the date:

"Kiwa is Chinook for “crooked.” Before 1915, the creek was called the
Little Shuswap River (Raush River was the Big Shuswap). ... References:
Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names. British Columbia
representative: D.F. Pearson, director of surveys and mapping, B.C.
Ministry of Environment, Victoria."

That was from:
James L. Swanson. "Kiwa Creek." Place Names in the Canadian Rockies. Web
page by Spiral Road - Digital Banff : Banff, Alberta, Canada. 2
September 2002. [http://www.spiralroad.com/sr/pn/k/kiwa_creek.html]

I hope my Dad won't mind me quoting one of his emails:

"There are quite a few bodies of water etc. up here with Chinook Jargon
names. the furthest east I have heard of is Mowitch (deer) Creek in
northern
Jasper Park. Closer to Valemount is the Kiwa (crooked) River. In sothern
Wells Gray park is Canim (canoe) lake."
