<P>The one suggestion I can think of has to do with the Barclay Sound vocabulary, which I've seen mentioned often but have yet to find a copy of; for some reason I've assumed this was a Royal Navy document, perhaps to do with the many gunboat-Indian debacles of the mid-19th Century. The other clue to the comment you cite is the reference on some maps to Vancouver Island (then typically mapped as Vancouver's and Quadra's Island) as "Wakish Nation"; maybe because the Nootka/Wakash vocabularies you mention were (maybe) in use througout. The general lack of documentation from colonial, even early provincial, BC is a major stumbling block for you here, though; there just weren't enough anthropologists to go around in those days.....</P>
