<DIV>>i realize this is rather off-topic, and ask for everyone's indulgence, but a friend of mine (artist/poet) is putting together an historical montage of sorts and is desparate to commemorate, in passing, the irish who helped build the railroads in this country. <BR>> <BR>>the idea she is trying to capture is "coming through a place, building as one travels," and to express the idea as succinctly as possible, i.e., "coming through, building." <BR>> <BR>> this is a bit embarassing, being an irish immigrant of sorts myself - i should know where to turn. but i do know there are many thoughtful linguists on this list, so any help would be greatly appreciated. <BR></DIV>
<DIV>I'm afraid I don't know enough Irish to be of assistance here, but it does occur to me that this is probably a good request to throw at a pertinent Usenet newsgroup, such as soc.culture.irish, soc.culture.gaelic [I think this may be more Scottish, though] or sci.lang. I used to hang out on sci.lang quite a bit, and queries like this tended to receive useful feedback (as well as their share of flames and spam, of course). I would make the subject line a bit more specific, though, e.g. "coming through, building - in Irish?"</DIV>
