I don't know for sure what the reliability of this site is: <a href="http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/snus">http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/snus</a> , but they claim that the word snus comes from Swedish. I remember my father, who was Norwegian-American (both of his parents emmigrated from Norway), used the word snus (in English) for snuff that you stick under your lip. I'm not sure that he ever used the stuff himself, but he certainly knew about it. And I can assure you that my father knew absolutely nothing about Chinuk Wawa, or any other Native American language for that matter.</div><div><br></div><div>Tom</div><div><br></div><div> </div><div><div>On Jun 28, 2009, at 3:08 PM, Tina Wynecoop wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><blockquote type="cite"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0; "><div class="hmmessage" style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Verdana; ">I knew immediately what the subject matter was.
