The University of Washington continues to engage in a major
transformation of its School of Library and Information Science. The
University is committed to building one of the top information schools =
in
the world. Another exciting initiative of the University is the recent
development of a graduate program in Biomedical and Health Informatics
offered by the Department of Medical Education. These two expanding =
programs
are teaming up to seek an outstanding individual to fill a tenure-track
faculty position. The primary appointment for this position will be in =
the
School of Library and Information Science. The successful applicant =
will
also have an adjunct appointment in the Department of Medical =
Education. The
level of the position will probably be at the Assistant Professor rank =
but
candidates with exceptional qualifications may be considered for =
appointment
at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The duties of the =

areas:

The School of Library and Information Science and the Department of
Medical Education have a very close relationship based on shared =
interest in
biomedical and health informatics, undergraduate and graduate =
information
education. Both schools are eager to strengthen these existing ties =
through
collaborative research and educational initiatives. This faculty =
position is
one of many steps towards achieving our aim. Our new colleague will =
join
faculty in both schools who are eager to engage in partnerships that =
will
transform the information, informatics and health sciences and services
fields at the University of Washington.

The University of Washington is one of the oldest state-supported
institutions of higher education on the Pacific coast with close =
proximity
to world-class cultural and recreational attractions. The University is =
a
center of Internet 2 and other information technology developments and
provides cutting-edge information technology and biomedical research =
and
teaching opportunities. In addition, Seattle is home to some of the =
most
important companies in the information economy.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the
position is filled. Select candidates will be invited for campus =
visits in
January and February 2001. The University of Washington is building
