Starting salary up to £19486 on the RA1A scale: £17,451 - £26,229

Applications are invited for a full-time research associate on the above
EPSRC-funded research project, directed by Dr. Andrew Wilson.

The project is concerned with locating, collecting, and disseminating
computer-readable language resources to assist in the development of speech and
language technology for the Welsh, Gaelic, Irish, Manx, Cornish, Ullans, and
Scots languages.

The appointee will carry out a survey of resource availability and needs among
both academic and industrial users, and will be involved in planning and
co-ordinating the collection, transcription, and analysis of a small corpus of
spoken Welsh and Gaelic.

The successful applicant will be a graduate in Celtic languages, linguistics,
or a related area, and will have some knowledge of either Welsh or Gaelic (or,
exceptionally, another Celtic language). You will require a high level of
computer literacy as well as good research and communication skills.
Preference may be given to applicants with some previous experience in
co-ordinating the work of others (not necessarily in an academic or research

by no means essential.
