Greetings all,

Last fall (2001) I started to collect information about NLP and CL
researchers in Latin America. There was quite a bit of response and
interest, so it seemed like having a more organized means of
collecting and providing this information would be useful.

We have created a web site where folks who are located in or are
originally from Latin America can register and provide information about
themselves and their research.

http://www.d.umn.edu/~tpederse/registry/registry.cgi

We just put the site up Nov 22 so there are only a few entries thus far,
but hopefully that will increase over time. Please come browse around -
we hope that this will be an interesting and useful resource.

Below is a note I've started mailing around announcing the site. I'd
be grateful if you could forward this to interested colleagues, and
of course register if you are in or from Latin America!

Thanks!
Ted

Dear Colleague,

I am happy to announce the creation of the Registry of Latin American
Researchers in Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics.

http://www.d.umn.edu/~tpederse/registry/registry.cgi

The objective of the Registry is to provide a centralized source of
information for and about students, professors, researchers, and
practitioners in Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics
who currently reside in Latin America. If this describes you, or if you
are originally from Latin America but living elsewhere, please take a
moment to register.

The creation of the Registry is a part of the Latin American outreach
activities of the North American chapter of the Association for
Computational Linguistics ( NAACL ). Our hope is that the Registry will
help promote Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics
research being carried out in Latin America. In addition, we want to
encourage further collaboration among researchers within Latin America and
with the rest of the world.

Thanks very much for your help. Please spread the word about the our new
Registry of Latin American Researchers in Natural Language Processing and
Computational Linguistics!
