We would like to announce that the Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English (MICASE) is now available for a nominal fee on CD-ROM or as a zip file download. On-line access to the MICASE corpus has been available for some time, but we are now distributing copies of the XML text files for those who prefer to use the corpus off-line, with their own software.

As you may already know, it is possible to freely download individual MICASE transcripts from the on-line site. However, in order to download the complete corpus, users need to go through 2 or 3 steps/clicks per transcript. In addition, the SGML files available on our web site differ in some ways from the official CD-ROM/zip file version that we are now releasing:

(i) the web version contains extraneous SGML mark-up that speeds up the on-line search engine;
(ii) the speech for some speakers has been hidden/deleted, as per consent restrictions, in the web version;
(iii) minor corrections/changes have been made to our transcripts since the creation of the web version.

This release of the corpus is for the orthographically transcribed version only, and is in XML. In the future, we plan to release a part-of-speech tagged and lemmatized version of MICASE, as well as some of the sound files. Watch our web site for these updates.

Users may purchase either a single-user or a site license at the following rates:

US$50 - MICASE Corpus with Individual License, download version
US$180 - MICASE Corpus with Site License (2-25 users), download version
US$10 - extra charge for CD-ROM version (shipping & handling)
