Post-Doctoral/PhD positions in NLP applied to web 2.0 / eLearning, Computer Science Dpt., Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, Germany

Center of Research Excellence (CRE) eLearning 2.0 (http://www.cre-elearning.tu-darmstadt.de/) has an opening (Post-Doctoral or PhD) in the area of NLP applied to web 2.0 / eLearning. The position is funded by the Technische Universitaet Darmstadt to strengthen the university profile in this area. Center of Research Excellence eLearning 2.0 is embedded in the Computer Science Dpt. and is directed by Dr. Iryna Gurevych (UKP Lab, http://www.ukp.tu-darmstadt.de/) and Prof. Dr. Max Mühlhäuser (Telecooperation Division).

The candidate will work together with CRE directors to acquire and conduct large-scale research projects in NLP and semantic technologies for web 2.0 and eLearning. His/her research will be embedded in running research projects and devoted e.g. to computational analysis of web 2.0 discourse for knowledge work. Particular challenges addressed may involve mining web knowledge repositories, such as Wikipedia, to enhance information search und utilizing machine learning techniques to analyze user generated discourse.

The candidate will be affiliated with the rapidly growing Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab that has been recently awarded several significant grants. UKP Lab participates in multiple basic and applied research projects in information retrieval, summarization, mining knowledge from unstructured documents, and providing semantically enhanced information management. For this position, a strong background in Natural Language Processing and/or Computer Science is required as well as leadership abilities and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting. Strong programming skills and a keen research interest are essential. For this position, the applicants should have a very good command of German and be willing to acquire qualifications in research management along with research qualifications.
