[Corpora-List] Corpus of pre-modern German: Research Associate posts

See below for details of two posts on a project to build up a 
historical corpus of German. There is also funding for a PhD student in 
the field of computational linguistics to work on developing tools for 
the analysis of the corpus in collaboration with the other team 
members; interested students should contact Martin Durrell by email 
(address below). Please pass on information about the RA posts and the

THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER

SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES, LINGUISTICS AND CULTURES

(Salary range for both posts: £27,466 - £33,780 per annum)

1. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (HISTORICAL GERMAN LINGUISTICS)(REF: HUM/80301)

You should have completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in some 
aspect of German linguistics. You should have a high level of 
competence in German, an ability to read older German texts and 
experience in collecting and working with historical linguistic data. 
Some experience of working with linguistic corpora would be an 
advantage.

2. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (COMPUTATIONAL LINGUISTICS)(REF: HUM/80302)

You should have completed or be nearing completion of a PhD in some 
aspect of computational linguistics. You should have a good level of 
competence in German and experience in working with linguistic corpora 
and text analysis software. Some acquaintance with historical 
linguistic data, particularly in respect of German, would be an 
advantage.

Both posts will contribute to the project GerManC - A Historical Corpus 
of German 1650-1800, funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research 
Council and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Further details

Both posts are available for a fixed term of 36 months starting on 1 
July 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter.
