Position open to be filled on a collaborative project between Humboldt 
University, Berlin and Bangor University, titled "What's Hard? 
Structural Learning Difficulties in German". The position is located at 
Humboldt-University, Berlin.

The project involves the further development of a learner corpus (Falko, 
http://www.linguistik.hu-berlin.de/institut/professuren/korpuslinguistik/forschung/falko) 
and the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of German learner corpus 
data. The goal of the project is to discover what structural 
difficulties in the acquisition of German as a foreign language can be 
detected through corpus studies.
We are looking for a candidate who share the avid interest in research 
found in our institute and complement the existing research community.

0.5 Researcher Position, BAT II a, 36 months starting July 2009

This position is concerned with the annotation and evaluation of the 
learner data. The learner data will be annotated on multiple linguistic 
levels and evaluated using qualitative and statistical methods. Of 
particular interest are linguistic structures which are underused by all 
learners, independent of their native language.
The position will also deal with the conception of corpus content and 
the technical maintenance of the corpus.

Concurrent doctoral studies are possible. Qualified women and disabled 
people will be preferred for the position.

Requirements
o	Degree in Linguistics, German Studies, Computational Linguistics, 
German as a Foreign Language or a related field
o	Experience with empirical methods (corpus methodology) and basic 
statistical skills
o	Very good English and native/near-native German
o	Team spirit
o	Knowledge in the area of German as a Foreign Language is advantageous
