Greetings all,

This is to announce the availability of a Google Group that is meant
to be a forum to make announcements and have discussions about Natural
Language Processing and Computational Linguistics in Latin America.

Visit the following link to join...

http://groups.google.com/group/naacl-latin-america

As many of you know NAACL ( http://naacl.org ) has maintained The
Registry of Latin American Researchers in Computational Linguistics
and Natural Language Processing since 2002. (
http://www.d.umn.edu/~tpederse/registry/registry.cgi ) The Registry is
intended to serve as a search-able database on behalf of researchers
who are either from Latin America or located in Latin America. There
are now more than 270 members of the Registry, so I encourage you to
check it out and also join if you are from or located in Latin
America.

However, the Registry is primarily a "read only" resource, and while
this remains an important source of information, it doesn't offer a
convenient means for distributing information, carrying on
discussions, or asking questions about resources or data of particular
relevance to Latin America. As such, this new Google Group is open to
*anyone* who wishes to join, in the hopes of more closely integrating
the Latin American research community and also making it easier for
those in other regions to find out more about research and events in
Latin America.

Please feel free to participate actively in this group, and you are
welcome to post in English, Spanish, or Portuguese (whichever seems
most appropriate). Also, please note that this group will one of
NAACL's primary mechanism for making announcements of particular
interest to Latin American researchers, so please join if this might
be of interest.

Cordially,
Ted
