[Corpora-List] [E-Announce] New FreeLing release

  Dear list members,

    We are pleased to announce the release of FreeLing version 2.1, 
which improves previous versions, including new languages, new 
functionalities, and enhanced processing for those already included.

   FreeLing is an open-source C++ library providing language  analysis 
services (such as morfological analysis, date recognition,
 PoS tagging, shallow parsing, etc.).   The software is released under GPL.

   FreeLing is designed to be used as an external library from any 
application requiring this kind of services. Nevertheless, a simple
main program is also provided as a basic interface to the library, which 
enables the user to analyze text files from the command line.

    New functionalities in version 2.1 include:
       - UKB <http://ixa2.si.ehu.es/ukb/> based Word Sense Disambiguation
       - [Soon et al 2001] 
<http://www.aclweb.org/anthology/J/J01/J01-4004.pdf> based correference 
resolution (Spanish only by now)
       - prefix handling in morphological analysis

   Main improved functionalities are:
      - Added Machine Learning based  Named Entity Recognition
      - Larger Catalan dictionary thanks to the open-source Catalan 
spellchecker El Corrector <http://projectes.lafarga.cat/projects/corrector>
      - Larger Galician dictionary thanks to the ProLNat 
<http://gramatica.usc.es/pln/index.html> group in Universidade de 
Santiago de Compostela
      - Improved dependency parsing for Spanish, Catalan, and English 
(thanks to GRIAL <http://grial.uab.es/index.php?idioma=in> research group)

    The existing language repertoire (Catalan, English, Galician, 
Italian, and Spanish) has been increased with:
       - Asturian, thanks to the Eslema <http://www.uniovi.es/eslema/> 
project in Universidad de Oviedo
       - Portuguese, thanks to the ProLNat 
<http://gramatica.usc.es/pln/index.html> group in Universidade de 
Santiago de Compostela
       - Welsch, thanks to Francis Tyers, from the Apertium 
<http://www.apertium.org/> project.
      
    FreeLing has been developed by the NLP research group 
<http://www.lsi.upc.edu/%7Enlp> at the TALP Research Center 
<http://www.talp.cat/talp/index.php/en> in Universitat Politècnica de 
Catalunya.
    Linguistic data has been provided by different research groups.
