==========================================================

The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Concordia
University in Montréal, Canada has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Fellow
(PDF) / Research Associate in the area of text mining and bio-NLP.

The position is located within the new Cellulosic Biofuel Network, a Canadian
network of more than 40 government and university scientists seeking to
eliminate constraints for the Canadian bioethanol industry. The job duties
include research on the application of text mining techniques to the
discovery of fungal enzymes with industrial applications under the
supervision of Dr. René Witte. Installation, enhancement, and evaluation of
text mining systems (such as GOPubMed, Textpresse, and Mutation Miner) in
direct collaboration with end users is an essential part of this position.
Examples of information we are interested in extracting from the bibliome
include enzyme kinetic properties; protein-gene interaction during
transcription for the study of transcription factors; protein localization
and secretion; and information for metabolic pathways and the secretory
pathway. Hence, the candidate must have solid foundation in text mining and
(Bio-)NLP, good knowledge of systems (NLP frameworks such as GATE, Linux, Web
Services and Service Composition Workbenches, OWL Ontology and Semantic Web
infrastructure) and preferably some background in biology/bioinformatics.

The position will be located at Concordia University in Montréal, an English
speaking university in a French environment. Montréal is also top-ranked in
quality of life in North America. Concordia features state-of-the-art
research facilities, including the two locations relevant for this position,
