ICAME32: First circular – Call for papers

The University of Oslo, Uni Digital and the Norwegian School of
Economics and Business Administration are co-organizing the 32nd ICAME
conference in Oslo from 1-5 June 2011.

The conference will be held in honour of Stig Johansson and is entitled
"Trends and Traditions in English Corpus Linguistics"

Academic Programme
The programme will consist of full papers, work-in-progress reports,
poster sessions, software demonstrations, as well as pre-conference
workshops. The following speakers have agreed to give plenary lectures:

* David Crystal (University of Bangor)
* Cathrine Fabricius-Hansen (University of Oslo)
* Margaret Laing (University of Edinburgh)
* Christian Mair (University of Freiburg)
* Michael Stubbs (University of Trier)


Conference Venue
The conference hotel and main venue is Clarion Royal Christiania Hotel,
located in Oslo city centre. The opening plenary at 5pm on Wednesday 1
June will be held in the Old Ceremonial Theatre at the University of
Oslo (city centre campus), and all sessions on Friday morning will be
held at Blindern campus, University of Oslo. Registration and
information on conference costs will appear in a second circular and on

Social Programme
There will be a reception at Oslo City Hall straight after the opening
plenary on Wednesday 1 June. On Friday there will be a half-day
excursion, including a boat trip on the Oslo fjord and a visit to the
Viking ship museum on the Bygdøy peninsula. The gala dinner on Saturday
night will take place at the conference hotel.


Call for Papers
Full papers will be allowed 30 minutes, including 10 minutes for
discussion; work-in-progress reports will be 15 minutes long, including
5 minutes for discussion. Posters will be presented in the poster
sessions (max. size A0, portrait format) and software demonstrations
will be allowed 30 minutes, including 10 minutes for discussion. The
deadline for abstract submission is 1st December 2010. Abstracts of a
maximum of 400 words in length should be submitted online. Please refer

Notifications of acceptance will be sent out in January 2011, together
with the second circular. Registration opens in March 2011.

In honour of Stig Johansson, we particularly welcome contributions on
his main research interests: English grammar, corpus development, and
contrastive analysis. Early career ICAMErs should note that they may
apply to be considered for the John Sinclair Bursary for delivering the
best paper. Similarly, there will be a Stig Johansson Bursary for the
best poster presentation. More information on how to enter will appear
in the second circular.
