The successful candidate will join our language engineering team, which is responsible for development and exploitation of the corpora and lexical data used in OUP's dictionaries and licensed for uses such as search engine technology, error detection, machine translation, and e-readers.

You will have experience of writing programs that process natural language data, an enthusiasm for developing and applying innovative techniques in linguistic analysis for monolingual and bilingual lexical data development, and an awareness of the issues involved in processing diverse languages. A practical, problem-solving attitude is essential. Expertise in any of the following would be an advantage:


 *   Perl, Python, Java, or similar
 *   XML, XSLT and related technologies
 *   Statistical Language Processing/Machine Learning
 *   Lexical resources for data mining, sentiment analysis, or similar
 *   Interactive web application development
 *   Creation of high-quality textual corpora
 *   Familiarity with a non-European language such as Arabic, Chinese or Japanese.
