[Corpora-List] BNC-XML vs. Wordsmith

(1) There is
http://lexically.net/wordsmith/Handling_BNC/ which is designed for your 
type of research interest.

(2) WordSmith 5.0 does already come with a tag file for BNC-XML (you 
should find BNC XML.tag and BNC XML categories.txt in your 
\Documents\wsmith5 folder).

(3) However I am working on WordSmith 6 at present and one of the 
features I definitely do plan to improve is XML handling, which at 
present is pretty basic. (Today I'm working on a timeline feature, 
however.) The problem with XML parsing is that a full parse is slow so 
complex searches will best be carried out on a relatively fixed corpus 
like BNC XML where WordSmith can be set to build an index.
