CALL FOR PARTICIPATION: Shared Task on English Lexical Simplification

We invite participants to a new task organized as part of
SemEval-2012: Lexical Simplification of English texts. Given a short
context and a list of words/expressions that fit that context, the
goal is to rank these candidates according to how "simple" they are.
"Simple words" are  defined  as  words that can be understood by a
wide variety of people, including people with low literacy levels or
cognitive disabilities, children, and non-native speakers of English.
For this task in particular the trial and gold-standard rankings
provided were produced by fluent but non-native speakers of English.
This task is closely related to the English Lexical Substitution task
from SemEval-2007. However, instead of asking the systems to provide
the lexical substitutes, these are given and we ask participants to
rank them.
