[Corpora-List] Job opening: Research/PhD studies, information structure, Compling, U Potsdam

The research group Applied Computational Linguistics at University of  
Potsdam (Germany) has an opening for a part-time position (75%) in the  
Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 632 "Information structure". The  
position is in the project "Linguistic Database", which is lead by  
Prof. Anke Lüdeling (HU Berlin) and Prof. Manfred Stede (Uni Potsdam).

The research area for this position is the corpus-based investigation  
of information structure phenomena at the sentence/text interface. The  
duration is April 2012 to June 2015; the candidate can pursue a PhD as  
part of this work. Compensation is according to the TVL-13 pay scale.  
Candidates need a Masters or Diploma degree in Computational  
Linguistics or Computer Science (with knowledge of Linguistics) or  
Linguistics (with knowledge in Computer Science).

The successful candidate will be dealing with
a) corpus-based studies of information structure in text: models of  
referential movement, theme/rheme partitioning, etc.; studies in  
deriving information-structural features (givenness status, topic,  
focus) from other linguistic annotations (syntax, coreference, etc.);  
developing computational tools for these purposes.
b) service (using annotation tools, databases) for the other,  
empirically-oriented projects in the Potsdam part of the Collaborative  
Research Center.

A position of a student assistant is available to help with these tasks.

Candidates should
- know conceptions of information structure, esp. for written language (text)
- know theories of discourse structure
- know basic techniques of computational linguistics
- have experience with scripting languages (e.g., Perl)
- enjoy teamwork
- have some knowledge of German

An optional plus is experience with XML technology and software  
development in Java.
