National ICT Australia (NICTA) is Australia's ICT Research Centre of
Excellence. NICTA aims to bring together world-class researchers and
professional staff, enhance their skills, and build a culture of
entrepreneurship and achievement in use-inspired research that will
build Australia's ICT capacity.

We are seeking a Researcher to participate in several Biomedical
Informatics projects at the NICTA Victoria Research Laboratory. Our
projects address biomedical data analysis through data integration,
with a specific focus on taking advantage of the information in
textual resources. These projects cross the spectrum from genomic data
analysis to clinical record mining. Active projects include
integrating text analysis into protein function prediction and
surveillance of fungal infections in the hospital setting. The
successful candidate will work with an existing team---of researchers,
software engineers, research students and faculty from the University
of Melbourne, RMIT, and Monash University, and collaborators from
biomedical partners---in developing new techniques in Text and Data
Mining of value to biomedical and genomic researchers.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Computer Science,
Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computational Linguistics, or a
related field, with a proven research contribution as evidenced by
strong publications. Good programming skills and expertise in
biological data analysis, machine learning, data mining, or
probabilistic techniques is essential. Text mining expertise is highly
desirable. Good communication and teamwork skills are also essential;
