(with apologies for cross-posting)

Guy Cook (King’s College London) and Alison Sealey (University of
Birmingham) are inviting applications for four opportunities arising
from their successful bid to the Leverhulme Trust for a 3-year
research project starting in September. This project, ‘People,
Products, Pets and Pets: the discursive representation of animals’,
will collect extensive empirical data encompassing a wide range of
discourse about animals, and investigate how linguistic choices within
that data relate to particular scientific, philosophical, ethical,
popular and practical stances towards them. (See
here<http://www.kcl.ac.uk/sspp/news/newsrecords/2013/discursive-representation-of-animals.aspx>
for more information.)

In addition to Professor Cook (PI) and Dr Sealey
(Co-I), the research team will comprise one Research Assistant and one
funded PhD student at each institution. The RA posts are both 50% fte
for the first two years of the project. The PhD at King’s will
investigate aspects of the representation of animals in a language
other than English; the PhD at Birmingham will investigate an aspect
of how representations of animals in English have changed over time.

Further particulars and details of how to apply will be appearing
shortly on jobs.ac.uk and findaphd.com, as well as on the vacancies
pages of the two universities’ websites. Meanwhile, informal enquiries
about any of these opportunities are welcome. Please contact Guy Cook
via email at guy.cook at kcl.ac.uk<mailto:guy.cook at kcl.ac.uk> or Alison
Sealey at a.j.sealey at bham.ac.uk<mailto:a.j.sealey at bham.ac.uk>.

Do please draw this message to the attention of other people who you
think may be interested.
