Multi-year Postdoctoral Research Position

Job Description:

The successful candidate for this position will conduct state-of-the-art research and development on tutorial dialogue, natural language processing, and cognitive science.

Job responsibilities include, among others, the followings: participate in all aspects of a large-scale educational technology with an emphasis on research, development, and implementation; lead the research, design, and implementation of various components of a dialogue-based tutoring systems including but not limited to dialogue manager, semantic interpreter, question generator, student model, and domain model; help with the design, implementation, and analysis of various experiment data needed to fulfill the mission of the project; interact with members of the project team, supervise graduate students, disseminate findings through publications and presentations; evaluate, install, and maintain software packages; and administer the computing infrastructure.

This position is for 12 months and is renewable for up to 2 years based on performance and availability of funding.

Qualifications:

A PhD in computer science and/or cognitive science or related areas is required by the time of hiring. ABD candidates are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates should have a track record of computational linguistics and tutoring systems research. Experience with technologies in the areas of human language processing, machine learning, and virtual agents are needed. Knowledge of Java, C, and experience with cross-platform system administration is necessary.
