The *Institute for the German Language (Institut für Deutsche Sprache, 
IDS)*
in *Mannheim* and the *Institute for Computational Linguistics (ICL)* at
*Heidelberg University* will jointly establish the *Leibniz ScienceCampus
"Empirical Linguistics and Computational Language Modeling"*. The Leibniz
ScienceCampus aims to conduct innovative research to support the
high-quality automatic annotation of large-scale corpus resources of German
language through induction of domain-, genre- and variety-adaptive natural
language processing models, to enable advanced empirical research in
linguistics as well as innovative applications in the humanities and the
social sciences.

The Institute of German Language (IDS) and the Institute of Computational
Linguistics (ICL) at Heidelberg University offer positions starting*
1 April 2015* for

*three postdoctoral researchers or group leaders (Reference number: 2/2015)
for the thematic areas:*

     * Natural language processing & annotation science
     * Induction of (variational) linguistic models & resources
     * Applications in empirical linguistics & Digital Humanities


Salary is based on Germany's academic salary level TV-L 13 or TV-L 14. The
weekly working hours correspond to 100% of the regular weekly working 
hours.
The vacancies arefor an initial period of two years, with the 
possibility of
extension for further two years.

*Responsibilities*:
* Development of the scientific profile and of scientific achievements 
of the
   research project, especially by contribution of excellent publishing 
activities
* Co-advising of doctoral candidates
* Responsible participation in acquiring additional research projects 
for the
   ScienceCampus
* Teaching activity in ICL's computational linguistics study program
   (2 SWS - weekly hours per semester)

*Requirements:*
Besides a successfully completed Ph.D. in computational linguistics or 
computer
science or in a specific field relating to linguistics or Digital 
Humanities
closely linked to the scientific profile of the ScienceCampus, several 
of the
following qualifications are required:

* Excellent publications with international visibility
* Outstanding qualifications in one or more of the following areas:
   * Statistics-based computational linguistics and Machine Learning
   * Corpus-linguistic procedures and text-technological modeling of 
linguistic data
   * Good programming skills, ideally experience with parallel computing 
and large
     NLP architectures
* Ability to work in a team, outstanding commitment, openness, flexibility,
   experience in coordinating research groups very welcome
* Good knowledge of the German language and excellent knowledge of the 
English language
