Short-term Gesture Annotation Contract

An EPSRC-funded project, investigating co-speech gesture from a
cross-linguistic perspective, is looking for gesture annotators for four
distinct languages (see below).

The annotation will be performed in ELAN, and the data to be annotated
consists of 1 hour recording of a face-to-face dialogue between 2
people.

Requirements:

* native level proficiency of one of the following languages:

    - Bulgarian (2 annotators required)
    - English (2 annotators required)
    - Italian (2 annotators required)
    - Hungarian (2 annotators required)

* experience with gesture annotation (e.g., identification of gesture
boundaries, gesture phases, gesture labelling, following the
well-established conventions of Kendon and McNeill).

* prior training in the ELAN annotation system (or in an alternative
annotation system such as Anvil and hence the ability to quickly
   learn ELAN)

* the annotator must be able to play the video files themselves in
ELAN. The files are in the QuickTime (.mov) format, using the H.264
codec, and have been tested to work on Macs and Windows 7. Our tests
were unfortunately unsuccessful in playing the files on Linux.

* minimum commitment of 10-20hrs/week for the next 1-2 months, to
   start as soon as possible

Please note that due to funding restrictions, only annotators that
have the right to work in the UK will be considered. This means that
you do not necessarily have to be physically present in the UK, but
you have to be eligible to work in the UK (please consult the UKBA
website if in doubt). We'll ask you for evidence before offering
employment.

If interested or if you have any queries, please send a mail to Katya
Saint-Amand Katya.Saint-Amand at ed.ac.uk with the subject [ Language:
Gesture Annotation ] where Language is one of the four languages
specified above. Please include the following information:

    * your experience in gesture research and gesture annotation
    * your experience in gesture annotation systems such as ELAN
    * your availability in hours per week for the next 1-2 months
    * expected remuneration in GBP per hour

Thanks for your interest.
