The University of Wolverhampton, School of Humanities,<br>
Languages and Social Sciences invites applications for an<br>
AHRB-funded research studentship in Computational Linguistics.<br>
The successful candidate will work on the development of a<br>
user-friendly environment which will assist different users<br>
in the production of abstracts of scholarly papers. In
particular,<br>
the research of the student will focus on designing and
implementing<br>
discourse strategies for summarisation. We are looking for
candidates<br>
with a good honours degree in Computational Linguistics, Computer<br>
Science or Information Sciences, with programming skills and some<br>
experience in Natural Language Processing. Candidates with a<br>
background predominantly in linguistics are also encouraged to<br>
apply provided they are willing to be involved in programming<br>
in the course of the work.<br>

The AHRB studentships are subject to residence restrictions<br>
in that the candidate must be either a UK citizen or must have been<br>
a resident in the UK for at least three years (1 year for EC
citizens).<br>

The AHRB maintenance grant amounts to 7 500 GBP in the<br>
first year, 8 200 GBP in the second year and 9 000 GBP<br>
in the third year.<br>

The successful candidate is expected to start the studentship<br>
on 1 October 2001, joining the Research Group in<br>
Computational Linguistics at the University of Wolverhampton<br>
