<DIV>Dear list-members,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I am trying to use TACT to analyse a 5-million-word corpus. Currently the corpus is in 12 txt files (approximately 3000 KB each). The corresponding tdb files are approximately 8000 KB each. My problem is that I have been having trouble merging the 12 tdb files. I have tried using the "mergebas" function as well as the "merge" function in Multi-Edit LITE to no avail. An error message indicates that I have run out of virtual memory. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Does anybody know how I can merge the 12 tdb files? I know that TACT is meant for small to medium-size corpora but surely 5 million words is very much within its limits. I am working on a Pentium 4 desktop with a 40 GB hard disk. As Windows XP does not support a full version of DOS, I have partitioned the hard disk so that 2 of the 4 drives are devoted entirely to MSDOS. I have also installed Multi-Edit LITE and BE400 on one of the MSDOS hard disk drives and am working on MSDOS version 7.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Can anybody suggest where I have gone wrong? I would really appreciate a nudge in the right direction.</DIV>
