<br>
A dictionary writing system (DWS) is a piece of software for writing <br>
and producing a dictionary. It might include an editor, a database, <br>
a web interface and various management tools (for allocating work etc.)
<br>
It operates with a dictionary grammar, which specifies the structure <br>
of the dictionary.<br>
<br>
The workshop follows a similar successful event last year. It will <br>
include structured teaching, hands-on experience of a leading DWS, <br>
and some research papers and demos.<br>
<br>
Deadline for expressions of interest regarding research presentations <br>
and demos: <br>

dictionary project managers<br>
lexical database users and developers<br>
lexicographers<br>
students of lexicography, lexicology, computational linguistics<br>

The structured teaching will include:<br>

dictionary grammars (including: <br>
design principles;<br>
XML and Document Type Definitions<br>
standardization initiatives (TEI, ISO, Concede)<br>
dictionary grammars for people and for computers <br>
requirements for a dictionary writing system<br>
publishers and lexicographers perspectives<br>
IDM Dictionary Production System<br>
using the editor<br>
task allocation<br>
querying the database<br>
merging in edited entries <br>

Trainers to include Adam Kilgarriff, Michael Rundell, engineers from IDM<br>
<br>
Fee: GBP90 for the two days to include lunches and a dinner, with half rate
<br>
for full-time students. <br>
