<DIV>Dear all,</DIV>
<DIV><BR>The Scottish Corpus of Texts and Speech (SCOTS) Project is delighted to
announce an update to our corpus, freely available online at <A
href="http://www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk">www.scottishcorpus.ac.uk</A>, on 27
September 2006.<BR><BR>The latest version of the Corpus now includes over
1000 texts in Scottish English and varieties of Scots, and a total of over 3.5
million words. Genres include informal correspondence, prose fiction and
non-fiction, poetry, religious texts and administrative/political texts. A
number of new spoken texts (conversations and interviews) are also now
available, presented as audio/video files with synchronised orthographic
transcriptions. These include some transcribed recordings from last summer's BBC
Voices project (<A
href="http://www.bbc.co.uk/voices/">http://www.bbc.co.uk/voices/</A>). Click
here for an example text: <A

<DIV><BR>An Advanced Search System fully exploits SCOTS' extensive
sociolinguistic metadata by allowing the user to build up a search
profile<BR>specifying sociolinguistic or textual criteria. Results can be
displayed as a re-orderable concordance, or on an interactive map: <A

encourage users to give us feedback on the SCOTS resource, including desired
enhancements to the facilities and texts available, through our web-form or by
email.<BR><BR>with kind regards,<BR><BR>The SCOTS team<BR><A
