<P><BR><STRONG>Workshop details:</STRONG><BR>CLARET is a collaboration between the Universities of Birmingham, Lancaster, Liverpool, Nottingham, and Reading and is funded by award 07/01/N under the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Collaborative Research Training Scheme.</P>
<P>This CLARET (Corpus Linguistics Advanced Research Education and Training) workshop is concerned with the development and analysis of spoken language corpora. It further explores ways in which new descriptions of discourse as they emerge from spoken corpus analysis can contribute to our<BR>understanding of a variety of issues in applied linguistics.<BR><BR>The workshop introduces a range of areas that are of key importance in spoken corpus analysis, including, amongst others:<BR><BR>* The collection and representation of spoken language data<BR>* The analysis of functional elements in spoken corpora<BR>* The relationship between speech and writing<BR>* The study of spoken grammar<BR><BR>The workshop will take place from 21-22nd January at the University of Nottingham and will consist of presentations, seminars and hands-on sessions. Participants will be given the opportunity to engage with a number of different spoken corpora hosted at the University of Nottingham.<BR><BR><STRONG>Confirmed speakers include: Professor Ronald Carter, Dr Anne O’Keeffe, Dr Miriam Locher, Dr Louise Mullany and Dr Svenja Adolphs</STRONG> </FONT></P><FONT size=2>

<P></FONT><FONT size=2><BR>The event will start on Monday, 21st January 2008 with registration and lunch at 12.30. There will be a dinner for participants in the evening of the 21st and the workshop will continue on Tuesday, 22nd January, at 9.30am.
