CLARET is a new national research training programme in corpus linguistics
running in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">UK</st1:country-region></st1:place>
from November 2007 to June 2008. It is open to doctoral students whose work
involves the investigation of large amounts of electronically-stored language
data. CLARET is a collaboration between the Universities of Birmingham, <st1:City
w:st="on">Lancaster</st1:City>, Liverpool, Nottingham, and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:City
w:st="on">Reading</st1:City></st1:place> and is funded by award 07/01/N under
the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s Collaborative Research
Training Scheme.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 color=black face=Verdana><span
style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:black'>The focus of the <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:City w:st="on">Lancaster</st1:City></st1:place> workshop will be
on corpus compilation, modes of corpus annotation, statistical approaches to
corpus data and will address these issues for non-English and historical
corpora in addition to the traditional focus on modern corpora of English. <o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

with priority given to AHRC-funded doctoral students. There is a small fee of
£10 per workshop for participants from partner institutions, and £40 per
