The Department of Modern Languages (English, Dutch and German) at the
Université catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium) has an
opening for a PhD research position beginning 1 October 2008. The
position is available for two years, normally extendable for another two
years (four years in total). <br><br>
The successful applicant will be completing his/her PhD thesis within the
framework of the university funded FSR project 'Quantification and
approximation in business language. A contrastive approach (English,
French and Dutch)'. The project aims to provide a detailed corpus-based
description of the words and phrases that are typically used to express
quantity and to approximate quantities (e.g. 'lots of', 'more or less',
'approximately') in business English, Dutch and French. The successful
applicant will be working in close collaboration with the members of the
Institute 'Langage & Communication' (Université catholique de
Louvain). <br>

Candidates must hold an MA degree or equivalent in English and Dutch
and/or French language and linguistics and should have native or
near-native command of English and a good knowledge of Dutch and/or
French. Familiarity with corpus-linguistic methodology is an asset. <br>
