seeks to appoint a research associate in text mining for 15 months. You will
work within a project funded by JISC on Chemistry using Text Annotation in
cooperation with the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType>
of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Cambridge</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>, the Royal
Society of Chemistry and Thompson Reuters.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>The aims
of the project are to integrate a variety of text mining tools for chemistry
developed by the National Centre for Text Mining and the University of
Cambridge using the text mining workflow infrastructure U-Compare <font
color=blue><span style='color:blue'>http://u-compare.org/ </span></font>to
produce an advanced information retrieval system for Chemistry and to develop
an evaluation framework for text mining in chemistry.<br>

Candidates must have a PhD in Computer Science and a good first degree (minimum
2:1) in an area relevant to the job description. You should also have excellent
software engineering skills and the ability to develop algorithms and software
for NLP/TM systems; the ability to produce experiments for bio-text mining
applications using large data sets; excellent knowledge of text mining
preferably using machine learning techniques and in particular named entity
recognition; excellent knowledge of C, C++, Java, XML, Linux and Web Services.
A good publication record would be an advantage.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
