color:black'>The School of English at Birmingham City University invites
applications for a bursary to support full-time research leading to the award
of a Ph.D. in English. The value of the bursary is £13,290 per annum in 12
monthly payments of £1,107.50 for a period of three years commencing the end of
June 2010. Fees are paid by the university and teaching for up to six hours per
week, without<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=MsoNormal style='text-autospace:none'><span style='font-family:"Times New Roman","serif";
color:black'>additional remuneration, may be available at the discretion of the
Director of Studies and the Head of School. <b>For the award to be payable, the
successful candidate must have enrolled in the School</b> <b>no later than 1st July

color:black'>Candidates for this award should normally have been awarded, or
expect to be awarded, a Master’s degree in a relevant English literary or
linguistic field from a British or overseas university. Exceptional candidates
without a Master’s degree, but holding a first class Bachelor’s
degree in English, may be considered, dependent upon the academic coherence and
promise of their research<o:p></o:p></span></p>
