<DIV>erm, just a quick summary of the postings to my query on BE/DO/HAVE. 

Contributions were not outrageously numerous but all the more substantial. 

They included pointers to:</DIV>

previously attested n-gram "do-be-do-be doo")</DIV>

<DIV>- a great song phrase with the verb BE, the old classic "is you is, or is 

you ain't my baby?"</DIV>

<DIV>- the logic, or lack thereof, behind this old classic </DIV>

<DIV>- a new academic field nerdily called porpoise linguistics and more 

conveniently called Arf! Arf! linguistics</DIV>
