The research group on<br>
<br>
<b>"Distributional Approaches to Semantic Relatedness"</b><br>
<br>
invites applications for a Post Doc position. The post is funded by
the German Research Foundation (DFG - Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft), through a Heisenberg Fellowship plus
Research Grant. The group is located at the Institute for Natural
Language Processing at the University of Stuttgart in Germany,
headed by Sabine Schulte im Walde.<br>
<br>
The project explores the potential and the limits of distributional
approaches to lexical semantics, focusing on (a) paradigmatic
semantic relations, (b) preposition senses, and (c) the
compositionality of compounds. The work is performed within an
interdisciplinary framework of computational linguistics,
theoretical linguistics, and cognitive linguistics. We expect a
guidance towards selecting and implementing theoretically and
cognitively adequate distributional attributes to model word
meaning, and gold standards as seeds for computational algorithms
and for intrinsic evaluations of the distributional models. As
extrinsic evaluation, we apply the results to statistical machine
translation. For further details on the research group, see
<a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="http://www.SchulteImWalde.de/research/heisenberg.html">www.SchulteImWalde.de/research/heisenberg.html</a>.<br>
<br>
The successful candidate will have a background in both
computational linguistics and cognitive
linguistics/psycholinguistics, with an interest in lexical semantics
and the interdisciplinary nature of the project. Furthermore, the
candidate will provide a strong experience in performing human
judgement experiments, preferably on semantic tasks. Programming
skills and the ability to work in a group are taken for granted. The
candidate should be able to work on German language data.<br>
<br>
The <b>application deadline</b> for the post is <b>30 June 2011</b>.
Applications should include a brief motivation letter including
research and teaching interests, a CV, a list of publications and
teaching experience, and up to three references. Applications should
be sent to Sabine Schulte im Walde by email.<br>
<br>
The <b>starting date</b> of the post is <b>1 November 2011</b>.
The project will run for three years, with a possible extension of
another two years. Salary is according to the German scale TVL.<br>
