<p style="text-align: justify;">The Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław invites academics, professional translators and students to take part in the conference The Translator and the Computer, which will be held on 20-21 April 2012. The conference will cover practical aspects of computer use and dedicated software tools in the translator's work. We hope to give the participants a platform to share their experiences, which will provide ideas for improvement of the work.
The conference will also provide an opportunity to discuss the likely future of translation studies in the context of rapid development of information technologies.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"> </p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>The topics include, but are not limited to, the following:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>use of established standard computer tools (such as editors, databases, spreadsheets, search engines, general dictionaries etc.);</li>
<li>use of established specialist computer tools (such as translation memories, computerassisted translation systems, machine translation tools, specialist dictionaries, comparable corpora, parallel corpora etc.);</li>
<li>use of established resources for translation (such as electronic texts and corpora available on the Internet etc.);</li>
<li>analysis of established resources for the translation;</li>
<li>new tools and resources for translators;</li>
<li>use of computers in translation studies;</li>
<li>use of computers in translators' training.</li>
</ul>
<p>We are also planning to hold practical workshops and special sessions dedicated to presentation of commercial software.</p>
<p><br /> Languages of the conference are English and Polish.</p>
