<p style="text-align: left;">The Philological School of Higher Education in Wrocław invites academics, professional translators and students to take part in the conference The Translator and the Computer, which will be held on 20-21 April 2012. The conference will cover practical aspects of com-puter use and dedicated software tools in the translator's work. We hope to give the partici-pants a platform to share their experiences, which will provide ideas for improvement of the work. The
conference will also provide an opportunity to discuss the likely future of transla-tion studies in the context of rapid development of information technologies.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">The topics include, but are not limited to, the following:<br />- use of established standard computer tools (such as editors, databases, spreadsheets, search engines, general dictionaries etc.);<br />- use of established specialist computer tools (such as translation memories, computer-assisted translation systems, machine translation tools, specialist dictionaries etc.);<br />- use of established resources for translation (such as electronic texts available on
the Internet etc.);<br />- analysis of established resources for the translation;<br />- new tools and resources for translators;<br />- use of computers in translation studies;<br />- use of computers in translators' training.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">We are also planning to hold practical workshops and special sessions dedicated to presen-tation of commercial software.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Conference venue and accomodation</span><br />The conference will be held in a historic landmark building, ul. Kopernika 5. The building is ideally situated in the heart of the most beautiful district of Wrocław, near the Szczytnicki Park, the Centennial Hall (a UNESCO heritage building) and the Zoo.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">We recommend accommodation at the Hotel Park, which is part of the conference venue.<br />Please note that the organizers do not provide accommodation for the conference partici-pants.</p>
