<div>Overview:</div><div>The clinical informatics group in the Division of Biomedical Statistics and Informatics at </div><div>Mayo Clinic is offering a 3 month Summer internship for 2012. Several projects are currently </div>
<div>under development in the areas of clinical data normalization, vocabulary and ontology management </div><div>(representation, storing, and querying), collaborative ontology authoring, and ontology reasoning.</div><div>
</div><div><br></div><div>We are seeking a candidate with computer science/IT background and experience in biomedical </div><div>ontologies, classifications, querying, formal knowledge representation, and description logics.</div>
<div> </div><div>Research activities and successful findings will be translated into development activities for </div><div>existing division projects, peer-reviewed publications, and extramurally funded research programs.</div>
<div><br></div><div>Requirements:</div><div>PhD student in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Information Technology, or related field. </div><div><br></div><div>Candidates who have taken curriculum and/or have a background in Semantic Web, Ontologies, and Web 2.0 </div>
<div>technologies will be given strong preference. </div><div><br></div><div>All candidates should have exposure to software development using an object-oriented programming </div><div>language with preference given to Java/J2EE technologies. Specific skills in the following environments </div>
<div>and technologies are desirable: Eclipse, ProtÈgÈ, SPARQL, SWRL, RDF, OWL, and Semantic Web Reasoners. </div><div>The candidate should be highly motivated, willing to learn and demonstrate initiative in assigned tasks. </div>
<div>Must possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical design skills. Strong oral and written </div><div>communication and interpersonal skills are required.</div><div><br></div><div>Duration:</div><div>This internship has a minimum duration of 3 months (up to 6 months). Start and end dates are negotiable. </div>
