<br>Dear Editor,<br><br>I would appreciate if you could post the attached job ad.<br><br>Thank you - Hinrich Schuetze<br><br><br><br>Open Positions in Computational Linguistics<br>at the University of Munich:<br>Senior Researchers, PostDocs, PhD Fellowships<br><br>The University of Munich (LMU) is repositioning and<br>expanding its activities in computational linguistics and<br>natural language processing (NLP). As part of this effort,<br>Prof. Dr. Hinrich Schuetze has been appointed Chair of<br>Computational Linguistics and head of the Center for<br>Information and Language Processing (CIS). The institute<br>will focus on linguistically informed statistical NLP while<br>building on CIS's rich tradition in information extraction<br>and retrieval.<br><br>The University of Munich is one of the top research<br>universities in Europe. It was the highest ranked<br>institution on several measures in the Exzellenzinitiative<br>funding program organized by the German national science<br>foundation in 2012.<br><br>Munich and the Upper Bavaria area are among the regions in<br>Europe with the highest quality of living. The area is also<br>home to a large number of high-tech, services and<br>manufacturing companies, including many that use NLP<br>technology.<br><br>The CIS team has the following openings. Salaries are in<br>the range 30000-50000 euros and depend on the type of<br>position and prior experience. The positions can be filled<br>for a variety of terms ranging from 2 to 5 years.<br><br>* eHumanities group leader. The successful candidate will<br>develop and lead CIS's research collaborations with<br>linguistics and humanities at LMU and apply for research<br>grants in this area at the national and European level.<br>Teaching classes in CIS's computational linguistics Bachelor<br>and Master programs is encouraged.<br><br>* Senior researcher (``Akademischer Rat auf Zeit'').<br>Successful candidates are expected to develop a program of<br>research in their own area of interest and to apply for<br>research grants at the national and European level. Job<br>duties include teaching courses in CIS's computational<br>linguistics Bachelor and Master programs.<br><br>* 2 PostDocs. Successful applicants will conduct their own<br>research in the general focus area of the institute,<br>linguistically informed statistical NLP methods and their<br>applications. Topics of particular interest include<br>sentiment analysis, information extraction, machine<br>translation and semi-supervised learning for NLP. PostDocs<br>will participate in the supervision of doctoral students and<br>contribute to the institute's research projects.<br><br>* 4 doctoral fellowships. These fellowships are funded from<br>a variety of sources, including German national science<br>foundation (DFG), university funds and industry grants. The<br>research will be carried out in the general area of<br>linguistically informed statistical NLP with specialization<br>in one of four focus areas: sentiment analysis, information<br>extraction, machine translation and semi-supervised learning<br>for NLP.<br><br>To apply send your application to<br>jobs@cis.uni-muenchen.de.
